Rest in God so you can love again

We often live focused on everything that still needs to be done. Our tasks, worries and the needs of others can take up all our time and fill our hearts.
Yet Jesus also invited his disciples to stop and rest. He did not ask them to abandon their mission, but to recover the strength they needed to continue it with renewed hearts.
Resting does not mean turning away from others. It means humbly recognising that we cannot do everything and that our lives need silence, prayer, serenity and trust.
When we rest in God, we stop relying solely on our own strength. We rediscover that we are loved, sustained and sent out once more to love others.
A word from Mother Maria Güell
Mother Maria Güell lived a life of generous service to those who were ill, vulnerable or in need. Her charity did not spring merely from a great capacity for work, but from her deep union with God.
In the midst of her responsibilities, she knew how to turn her gaze back to Christ and find in him the source of her strength:
“Always look to Christ in everything and love him deeply.”

Looking to Christ also means learning to rest in his presence. It means entrusting to him what we cannot resolve, recognising our limitations and allowing him to renew our desire to serve.
Living this month
August often brings a change of pace, holidays, family gatherings, journeys or moments of greater calm. Yet it can also become a month filled with activities, travel and commitments.
Whatever our circumstances may be, we can set aside some time to stop and return to the heart.
Resting in God allows his love to bring order and harmony back into our lives.
It is not simply a matter of stopping work. It is about learning to live without anxiety, giving thanks for what we have received, contemplating beauty and entrusting our concerns to God.
Gesture of the Month
Set aside ten minutes each day to stop and remain silently in God’s presence.
- Switch off your phone or place it out of reach.
- Breathe calmly and become aware of God’s presence.
- Give thanks for something specific you have experienced during the day.
- Entrust to the Lord a concern that is taking away your peace.
- Remain in silence for a few moments, without feeling the need to say many words.
Ask yourself: What do I need to entrust to God today in order to recover my peace?
One-minute prayer
Lord Jesus,
you know my tiredness,
my worries
and everything that fills my heart.
Teach me to stop,
to be silent
and to rest in your presence.
Help me to accept my limitations,
to entrust to you what I cannot resolve
and to give thanks for all the good I have received.
Renew my strength
so that I may return to others
with greater patience, joy and love.
Mother Maria Güell,
teach me always to look to Christ
and to serve with a heart united to him.
