Begin again with hope

September often feels like a new beginning. Schedules return, along with tasks, projects, meetings and many responsibilities that may have taken a back seat during the summer.
Sometimes we return full of enthusiasm. At other times we arrive tired, worried, or with the feeling that everything is starting up too quickly. Yet every new beginning can also become an opportunity.
God does not ask us to have everything worked out before we begin. He invites us to trust, to take the first step and to discover his presence in the midst of everything that is beginning again.
Christian hope does not mean believing that everything will be easy. It means knowing that, even in ordinary daily life, God is still at work and can bring something new to life.
A word from Mother Maria Güell
Mother Maria Güell’s life was marked by many new beginnings: new responsibilities, unexpected difficulties, urgent needs and paths that required trust.
She did not wait for circumstances to be perfect. Her gaze was fixed on God, and from that trust she found the strength to keep going:

This simple conviction reminds us that none of us is ever a finished work. We can always learn, put things right, begin again and allow God to transform something more deeply within us.
Living this month
September may bring new schedules, commitments, studies, work, family responsibilities or decisions that we have been putting off for some time.
We do not need to begin by changing many things at once. It may be enough to ask ourselves what we especially want to care for during this new season.
We do not have to change everything. Sometimes God begins something new through one small, faithful step.
A gesture repeated each day, a relationship we choose to care for, a prayer we return to, a word we decide not to say, or a small decision lived faithfully can open up new paths.
Gesture of the Month
Choose one small new beginning for this month. Not something grand or difficult, but one concrete gesture that you can nurture each day.
- Think of one area of your life that needs renewal.
- Choose one small and realistic step.
- Write it down in a simple sentence.
- Place it before the Lord each morning.
- If you do not manage it one day, begin again without becoming discouraged.
Ask yourself: What small step can I take today to allow God to do something new in me?
One-minute prayer
Lord Jesus,
a new season is beginning,
and I want to live it with you.
You know my hopes,
my tiredness,
my fears and my desires.
Give me trust to begin,
patience to keep moving forward,
and humility to begin again
whenever I need to.
Help me to recognise
the new things you are already doing
in my life and around me.
Mother Maria Güell,
teach me to believe that we can always
become better
and to walk forward with hope.
Amen.
