Charity Begins with Small Things
A Scripture Verse
“Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much.”
— Luke 16:10
A Thought
We often wait for great opportunities to do good.
Yet charity does not begin with extraordinary deeds. It begins in the simple moments of everyday life.
A kind word, a quiet act of service, a patient ear, or a prayer offered with love can bring light into another person’s heart.
What is small becomes great in God’s eyes when it is done with love.
A Word from Mother María Güell
Mother María Güell teaches us to live charity in a humble, practical, and everyday way.
She did not seek recognition or outward success, but faithful service: caring, forgiving, helping, and accompanying others.
“Everything that is done for God is great.”
When a small action is born of love, it becomes a flame of charity.
Living This Month
July is often a time of rest, travel, or meeting new people.
It can also be an opportunity to pay greater attention to simple acts of kindness.
Holiness is woven into ordinary life.
Every day offers us a new chance to love more generously.
Monthly Gesture
This week, choose one simple act of charity:
- Call someone who may need encouragement.
- Offer help without expecting recognition.
- Listen patiently before speaking.
- Pray for someone who is going through difficulties.
Ask yourself: What small act of love can I offer today?
A One-Minute Prayer
Lord,
teach me to find You
in the simple moments of each day.
Help me never to overlook small things,
never to seek recognition,
and never to grow tired of loving.
Make my life
a humble flame of charity.
Mother María Güell,
help me to serve with simplicity.
Amen.
“Small things done with love keep the flame of charity burning.”
