A Change That Begins Within
A Change That Begins Within
Conversion is not only about changing external behavior. Christian conversion is, above all, allowing God to touch the heart and slowly shape it.
Sometimes we expect to feel something extraordinary before we begin to change. Yet spiritual experience shows that God often works through what is simple and humble: a gesture of patience, a kind word, a decision to forgive, a moment of silence for prayer.
Mother María Güell lived with this inner attitude: learning to recognize God in the small things of each day.
The Power of Small Gestures
During Lent we often ask ourselves:
What can I do to draw closer to God?
Perhaps the answer is not to add many new things, but to live with greater love what is already part of our daily life.
Small gestures can become true paths of conversion:
- Listening attentively to someone who needs to be heard.
- Offering patience when difficulties arise.
- Setting aside a few minutes each day for silence and prayer.
- Refraining from a word that could wound.
- Doing good without expecting recognition.
These are simple things. Yet when done with love, they transform the heart.
A Conversion That Becomes Charity
When the heart changes, life also changes. Conversion does not remain only within: it becomes concrete charity, service, and attentive care for others.
The spirituality of Mother María Güell is deeply marked by this active charity: a love expressed in simple gestures, in a close and attentive presence, in hands that accompany.
Lent is a time to ask ourselves:
Where can I love more?
To whom can I draw nearer with greater attention and care?
A Path Taken Step by Step
God does not ask for immediate perfection. He simply invites us to take one step each day.
Lent is that time of grace in which we can return to the heart, allow ourselves to be found by God, and let His love slowly transform the way we live.
There is no need to begin with great things.
Sometimes a small gesture lived with great love is enough.
For Personal Prayer
- What small gesture can I live today with greater love?
- What attitude of my heart needs to be transformed?
- Where is God inviting me to grow in patience, humility, or charity?
May this Lenten journey, lived through small things, bring us closer to God each day.
